Dr. Erica (Ricky) Dunn

Ricky Dunn has worked as an academic professor and government research scientist (Trent University, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Canadian Wildlife Service), has published on a wide variety of subjects (including seabird physiology, avian population trends, and migration stopover ecology), and has served as President both of the Society of Canadian Ornithologists and of the American Ornithologists Union. In her varied career, however, Dunn has also worked for the Long Point Bird Observatory and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, the latter as founder of Project FeederWatch. She has a strong record of involvement with Citizen Science projects, and has published analyses of checklist surveys, heron counts, Breeding Bird Survey, Christmas Bird Counts, FeederWatch, banding data and migration counts. Of the several awards she has won, she is particularly pleased with the Eugene Eisenmann medal given her by the Linnean Society of New York, because uniquely, this award recognizes contributions to scientific ornithology in combination with encouragement of amateurs.
