  • 5-year Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas initiated by LPBO and the Federation of Ontario Naturalists.
  • Annual operating revenues exceed $100,000 for first time.
  • "Breeding Birds of Long Point Lake Erie" published.
  • Paper on use of migration counts for monitoring bird populations published.
  • Ontario Lakes Loon Survey initiated.
  • Special Long Point issue of "Seasons" magazine published.

  • Roy Smith hired as first full-time Migration Program Manager, replacing the seasonal Warden.

1987 - "Grackle Pox" Volunteer banders at Old Cut were occasionally subject to this serious infection. Scratches from Common Grackles that had been foraging in Poison Ivy was the common vector.

1985

  • Headquarters moved to St. Williams Forest Station.
  • First Baillie Fund grants awarded outside Ontario.
  • December storm destroys two remaining cabins and workshop at Tip station.

  • Endowment Fund assets reach $50,000.
  • Membership stands at 553.
  • Lighthouse automated and light keeper's vacate the Tip, after continuous presence since 1842!

  • Operating revenues exceed $250,000 for first time.
  • Ontario Lakes Loon Survey becomes Canadian Lakes Loon Survey.
  • Construction work completed on Old Cut and Tip stations.
  • Major office renovations completed.
  • Baillie Fund awards first annual student research award.
  • Constitutional amendments add new conservation objective and change associate members to legal members with voting rights.
  • 2-year project to computerize all historical banding data initiated.
