Long Point Area Bird Checklist

This checklist includes the 400 bird species that have been recorded in the Long Point, Ontario area.  The area covers the whole of Long Point and an area of the mainland bounded roughly by Highway 24 and the Port Ryerse road on the east, Norfolk County Road 1 on the north, Norfolk County Road 28 to the west and the waters of Lake Erie to the south. Thus, in addition to the diverse habitats on the Point itself, the area includes important habitat at Turkey Point, St. Williams Forest Station, Hahn Marsh, Backus Woods and South Walsingham Forests.   Species names and order are in accordance with The A.O.U. Checklist of North American Birds  (1998).

We encourage observers to report their sightings to our staff either at our Old Cut Field Station (519-586-3531 Ext. 200 or 201) or our headquarters in Port Rowan (519-586-3531). Rarities should be documented using our Rarity Report form.
