Swan 3640's Diary

Swan 3640 was fitted with a transmitter at Long Point on March 6, 1998. This swan stayed within 40km of Long Point until April 23. Swan 3640 than made several short flights with short stopovers. On April 27 it was recorded 67km away at Aylmer Wildlife Conservation Area. This wildlife area is a 210 hectare site that is primarily managed for Tundra Swans. Part of the site is planted with lure crops, 20 hectares have been excavated to create shallow, but varying depth artificial ponds (IBA’s of Canada Online Directory). Swan 3640 was recorded the following day April 28, 65km just northeast of Chatham another agricultural area. The following day April 29 – at 2:40 pm Swan 3640 passed into the United States at Port Hope, Michigan. At 4:30 pm she passed by Pinnebog on the east side of Saginaw Bay. At 7:00 pm she passed by Tawas Lake near Tawas City, Michigan. By 9:00 pm she was on a lake near Lewiston, Michigan. Swan 3640 remained near Lewiston from May 11 to 30. The final location for Swan 3640 was 181 km west at Superior, Wisconsin. Satellite data at this location is from June 2 until approximately mid June. 

Total accumulated tracking distance = 1868km.
