Spirit's Diary
Spirit was captured at Long Point on December 13,
1998. Spirit remained at Long Point from December 13 to 24th.
Between 1:00 and 3:00 pm on 24 December, Spirit starting migrating
southeast across Lake Erie. By 9:30 pm on 24 December, Spirit was on the
north end of Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, Maryland. On December 25th
Spirit was located 513km southeast near Essex, Maryland. She than
traveled down the coast 26km on December 26, and 265km on December 27 to
a large swampy area between Norfolk, Virginia and Elizabeth City. Spirit
was next located 85km south of Elizabeth City and remained there until
January 1. Sprit traveled 85km north back to Elizabeth City and remained
there from Jan.31 and Feb.1, 1999. On February 12, 1999, Swan 3722 was
located at Cambridge, Maryland. On February 18, 21, and 27,
Swan
3722 was recorded at Columbia, Maryland. On March 4, Spirit
traveled 418 km south and was 60 km east of Long Point. On March 7, she
was recorded at Long Point. The next record for Spirit is on March 24-25
at Fish Point Wildlife Area. Spirit than made several short distance
stops going north – 55km on Mar 27, 101km on March 28. On March 30,
Swan 3722 was 1007km northwest –near West Fargo, North Dakota assumed
agricultural area. Traveled 1,570km to Colin Cornwall Lake in the far
northwest corner of Alberta. The transmitter data lasted from May 26 until July 22, 1998 is at this location.
