Fall 2017

Bird Studies Canada will host our 8th annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids in Port Rowan, ON, on December 9. To sign up for this popular family event sponsored by Armstrong Bird Food and Ontario Power Generation, please email education@birdscanada.org. Bird Studies Canada is also co-hosting CBC4Kids events on December 9, including: Stanley Park CBC4Kids, co-hosted with NatureKids BC and Stanley Park Ecology Society in Vancouver, BC (please register online); Humber Arboretum CBC4Kids in Toronto, ON, co-hosted with the Humber Arboretum (please register online); and the Sackville, NB CBC4Kids co-hosted with NatureKids NB (email education@birdscanada.org for more information). Many other great CBC4Kids events will be taking place across Canada in December and January! Find one near you.

9 December 2017. Hamilton, ON. Join Bird Studies Canada’s Amanda Bichel and local naturalist Len Manning for a free family nature walk from 10 a.m. to noon. The group will meet in the Waterfront Trail parking lot at Confederation Park. Field guides and binoculars will be provided. Please email abichel@birdscanada.org for more information or to register.

25 November 2017. Toronto, ON. Meet Bird Studies Canada’s Emily Rondel at the Humber Arboretum for an introduction to the eBird Citizen Science database and a guided bird walk. Please register online for this free event.

4 November 2017. Windsor, ON. Purchase your tickets by October 25 for the 33rd Annual Dinner of the Essex County Field Naturalists’ Club, which will feature a talk by Jody Allair on Southern Ontario’s Forest Birds at Risk.

21 October 2017. Cayuga, ON. Enjoy bird banding demonstrations, a raptor show, and a birding panel discussion including Bird Studies Canada’s Stu Mackenzie at Ruthven’s For the Birds Festival.

23 September 2017. Corrigan Nature House, North Vancouver, BC. Those interested in volunteering for our Coastal Waterbird Survey or Beached Bird Survey are invited to learn survey techniques at a free workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Email BCvolunteer@birdscanada.org to register.

22-24 September 2017. Norfolk County, ON. Join us at the 2017 Ontario Field Ornithologists convention. The weekend includes Long Point Birding Area field trips organized by Bird Studies Canada, talks about the birds of Long Point by Stu Mackenzie and Ron Ridout, and a keynote address on bird conservation priorities by our president Steven Price.

16 September 2017. Hamilton, ON. Join Bird Studies Canada’s Amanda Bichel and Bob Curry from the Hamilton Naturalists’ Club for a guided nature walk at Hamilton Harbour Important Bird and Biodiversity Area.

16 September 2017. Bird Studies Canada Headquarters, Port Rowan, ON. Learn to bird at a free workshop led by our National Manager of Conservation Outreach, Jody Allair. Registration required.

1-2 September 2017. Centre de plein air de Beauport, Québec, QC. Join Bird Studies Canada’s Québec Program Manager Andrew Coughlan at a flagship BioBlitz Canada 150 event.

16 August 2017. Toronto, ON. Join Bird Studies Canada’s Liz Purves and Emily Rondel for An Evening of Swifts and Nighthawks at The Pavilions at Evergreen Brick Works.

12 August 2017. Vancouver, BC. Stop by Stanley Park to visit Bird Studies Canada’s booth between 2-6 p.m., and join our staff for guided birding walks at 2:30 and 4 p.m., at a flagship BioBlitz Canada 150 event.

9 August 2017. Toronto, ON. Discover how to use eBird for Citizen Science with Emily Rondel, as part of High Park Nature Centre’s summer speaker series.

22 July 2017. Innisfil, ON. Chat with Bird Studies Canada’s Kathy Jones about stewardship and advocacy for loons and other birds at your lake at Celebrate Lake Simcoe.
