Dr. Art Martell

Art Martell recently retired from Environment Canada as the first Canadian National Coordinator for the North American Bird Conservation Initiative and helped its development through work in Canada, the United States and Mexico including regional bird conservation workshops in Mexico, trinational projects and an MOU for the Conservation of North American Birds and their Habitats. Previously, Art was Regional Director General, responsible for all Environment Canada programs in British Columbia and Yukon including the Georgia Basin Ecosystem Initiative and environmental cooperation agreements with the Peoples Republic of China, Hong Kong, and Korea; Regional Director, Canadian Wildlife Service, responsible for Federal wildlife programs in British Columbia and Yukon, the international Pacific Coast Joint Venture under the North American Waterfowl Management Plan and the SFU Centre for Wildlife Ecology; and spent many years as a wildlife research scientist in several areas of Canada, particularly the North.
