Betsy McFarlane

Betsy McFarlane is a resident of Montreal but grew up in Annapolis, Maryland. She has long been interested in nature, but began birding in earnest in 1994. A director of Bird Protection Quebec (the Province of Quebec Society for the Protection of Birds) since 1997, she served as President from 2003 to 2005. She is an active volunteer at the McGill Bird Observatory. Betsy has organized local citizen science projects for Bird Protection Quebec members, atlassed several squares for the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas, and served as a volunteer field biologist at Long Point Bird Observatory in1997. She is co-chair of Bird Protection Quebec’s Conservation Committee.
With an educational background in literature, languages and translation, Betsy, who is a freelance translator by profession, was involved in the translation of the Quebec Breeding Bird Atlas, which awakened a serious interest in birding. She returned to university to study ecology, ornithology, botany and wildlife management.
