Geoff Carpentier |
Geoff has been an avid and active birder for over 30 years, having
birded in North, South and Central America, Europe and Africa. He has led birding tours
for many organizations, including Ontario Field Ornithologists, Federation of Ontario
Naturalists, Sir Sanford Fleming College, Trent University and Parks Canada. He is an
accomplished public speaker and has taught many courses bird study (involved bird trips),
waste management and pesticides for university, community college and government
organizations.
Geoff is an accomplished photographer, having won several
photographic awards and is widely published author, and has written one book (The Mammals
of Peterborough County (1987) 125 pp.) And written articles for Angler and Hunter
magazine, The Atlas of Breeding Birds of Ontario, Birdfinding Guide to Canada, Ontario
Birds, Canadian Field Naturalists, After Fifty Newspaper, OFO News - newsletter for the
Ontario Field Ornithologists editor for eleven years the Orchid - newsletter of the
Peterborough Field Naturalists, and Birders Journal.
Additionally, he has contributed to data or information to numerous other
publications or studies focussed on birds and mammals primarily. He is an active volunteer
or research projects and has worked, in this regard, in Ontario, the Northwest Territories
and New Brunswick on nesting, banding, habitat study, colour marking, migration and public
education projects.
He has held several portfolios for the following organizations: Ontario Field
Ornithologists - President, Board of Directors, Peterborough Field Naturalists - President
3 times and Board of Directors, Federation of Ontario Naturalists - Board of Directors,
and Friends of the Teaching Rocks - Board of Directors.
Geoff holds a degree from the University of Guelph in zoology and the biological
sciences, including botany, entomology and ornithology.
