Hugh McArthur

 

Hugh McArthur began teaching in 1963 in Sault Ste. Marie and continued in elementary and secondary systems in Toronto, Saskatchewan and finally in Norfolk Country where he retired in 1997. Most of his work was as a music teacher, in addition to ten years as a grade three teacher. Hugh received his Bachelor of Musical Arts degree and an Associated of the Western Ontario Conservatory of Music.
  Hugh spent twenty-two years doing Project FeederWatch. He became a serious volunteer at Bird Studies Canada two months after he retired when worked in the BSC library. Hugh has spent about 125 days a year banding birds at the Long Point Bird Observatory. Another fifty days a year are spent in the BSC head office working in the Aquatic Birds Research department going through data and sending off Marsh Monitoring Kits to participants. He has implemented the Friends of Long Point Bird Observatory, a group of dedicated volunteers who greet visitors at the Old Cut banding station. Hugh is nominated for his first term on the BSC board.
