Dr. Louis Visentin
|
Dr. Louis Visentin, who is currently
President and Vice-Chancellor at Brandon University, graduated with a
B.Sc. (Magna cum Laude) from St. Francis Xavier in 1963 and a M.Sc. from
the University of Detroit in 1966. He completed his Ph.D. at the
University of Michigan (Ann Arbour) in 1969. In 1971 he was appointed to
the continuing staff at the National Research Council. Subsequently, he
was a Senior Research Scientist and the Coordinator of NRCCs national
biotechnology program. In 1986, he became the Dean of Science at
Memorial and Vice-President (Academic/Research) at Mount Allison. In
1995 he moved to become Vice-President Academic at the University of New
Brunswick and began his term as Brandon University President on August
1, 2000.
In September 2002 Dr. Visentin was
awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for Service to Canada and in
2003 was admitted to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Dr. Visentin
was appointed to the National Research Council Governing Council in
March 2003 and to the NRC/Canada Council for the Arts
Artist-in-residence for Research (AIRes) Program in May 2003.
Dr. Visentin’s interests are broad and
varied. In addition to his academic, administrative and artistic
talents, he has a love and understanding of the natural environment. He
is passionate about ensuring that science is of the highest possible
caliber and that it is integrated with broader societal goals. |
