Mark Stabb
Mark Stabb
Chair
Mark is a biologist, writer and educator who first got involved with LPBO/BSC about 20 years ago as a tree swallow assistant working out of the old Long Point Bird Observatory headquarters in Backus Conservation Area. Mark worked as a biologist and park planner with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for 10 years before setting up his own business in ecological consulting and training. He has experience in forest management, certification and auditing, land use planning, fish and wildlife management, forest wildlife research, and old growth forest conservation, and has a particular interest in cavity-nesting wildlife.
Mark is Program Manager of the Ontario Wetland Habitat Fund, a private land stewardship program led by Wildlife Habitat Canada (WHC) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources as a contribution to the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV) of the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. As a member of the Ontario Steering Committee, Mark is helping the EHJV in its move towards all-bird conservation, inspired by the North American Bird Conservation Initiative. Mark currently volunteers as President of the Land Preservation Society of the Ottawa Valley, for the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas and for the Arnprior (Ontario) - based Macnamara Field Naturalists. He was also previously the Secretary for the Baillie Fund.
