Until accepting an Interchange Canada assignment with BSC as
Partners in Flight Scientist, Peter Blancher was Chief of the Migratory Bird Populations
Division, National Wildlife Research Centre, Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS)
for several years. As such, he had responsibilities for the Canadian Bird
Banding Office, the National Harvest Survey, the Breeding Bird Survey in
Canada, and research efforts on seabirds, shorebirds, songbirds and
waterfowl. Prior to this he was Coordinator of the CWS Acid Rain program.
Peter has served as Chair of the Program and Migration Monitoring
subcommittees of Council, and is the past Council Chair. Peter is also a
Councillor for the Society of Canadian Ornithologists, a member of the
National Working Group of Partners in Flight Canada, involved locally in
Goulbourn Township environmental advisory work, and a past Board member of
the North American Loon Fund. He lives in Richmond, Ontario, southwest of
Ottawa, and is a keen participant in volunteer bird survey programs.
