LPWWRF Scientist |
Shannon received his B.Sc. in
Wildlife Biology with an emphasis in Waterfowl and Wetland Ecology from
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1995. He then went to the
University of Western Ontario, under supervision of Dave Ankney, and
subsequently received his M.Sc. in Zoology in 1998. His Master's research
involved studying the growth and development of prefledgling Canada Geese
and Lesser Snow Geese residing on Akimiski Island in the Northwest
Territories. Shannon's Ph.D. research involved the study of Tundra Swan habitat use and
inter-actions among swans and other waterfowl at Long Point. He was affiliated with the Department of Zoology at the University of Western
Ontario and was supervised by Dave Ankney and co-supervised by Scott
Petrie. His thesis provides insight into the potential
ecological effects of an expanding Tundra Swan population as well as into
the staging ecology of this poorly understood species. Shannon
successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in April 2003.
