My fascination with birds was honed
from an early-derived passion to explore the outdoors of southwestern
Ontario via fishing and hunting trips with my father, and via birding and
other natural history related excursions with my late Grandparents. This
eventually led me toward an Honors BSc. in Ecology and Evolution, and an
MSc. in waterfowl ecology at the University of Western Ontario. My Masters
research focused on investigating growth and survival consequences of egg
size variation in Lesser Snow Goose goslings at Akimiski Island, in
southwestern James Bay, Nunavut.
Quenching my thirst to gain more knowledge in various natural
history related interests such as avian ecology and prehistoric human
occupations of southern Ontario continue to employ much of my time. My
principal work experience includes various tasks associated with research
and management of waterfowl and wetlands during my academic career and
temporary employment with Ducks Unlimited Canada, Delta Waterfowl and
Wetlands Research Foundation and the University of Western Ontario. Most
recently, I was employed full-time as a conservation biologist with the
Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. I reside just north of Port
Rowan in rural Norfolk County and very much look forward to sharing many
memorable experiences in this very unique landscape.
When I’m not out in my wood-working shop carving birds or
building furniture, out in the bush or marsh hunting or birding, or
walking fields in search of prehistoric archaeological sites, you’ll
find me spending ‘quality time’ with my wife, Cathy, our little son
Andrew, and our black Labrador Retriever, "Quick-runnin’
Brook".
