Justice Warren Winkler

Justice Warren Winkler grew up in
Pincher Creek, Alberta and resides presently in Toronto. He is a
graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts degree
and the Osgoode Hall Law School with both an LL.B. and LL.M. He was
called to the Bar of Ontario in 1965 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in
1977. He was founding partner of the law firm Winkler, Filion and Wakely
in Toronto and has appeared in almost every jurisdiction in Canada as
well as in Africa. Warren was appointed to the Superior Court of Ontario
in 1993 and became Regional Senior Justice in the Toronto Region of that
Court in 2004. He and his wife Ruth have two daughters, two
grand-daughters and two black Labradors, Gretzky and Maggie. His
interests include fly-fishing as well as farming and birding at his
farm, Strawberry Hill, near Markdale. He was instrumental in the
creation of the Long Point Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Fund in the
late 1980’s, served as its chair since its inception, and in that role
has worked closely with Bird Studies Canada. |
