Baillie Birdathon 2005 was another great success. The enthusiasm and support by participants and sponsors continues to ensure Birdathon is a fun, fund-raising event for all involved.

By September, $190,000 had been raised.  With over 450 participants registered across Canada, money has been raised for 80 conservation organizations along with Bird Studies Canada.

A special thanks to those truly dedicated whose efforts ranked in the top ten.

Bird Studies Canada was fortunate to have Kenn Kaufman as the 2005 Baillie Birdathon guest birder. Kenn is a world authority on birds. He is the author of several birding books and guides, including Kingbird Highway and the comprehensive Lives of North American Birds. He has been studying birds for four decades and has dedicated his life's work to sharing his knowledge and passion as a writer, public speaker, artist, and photographer.
During his Birdathon event on 22 May 2005, Kenn tallied 160 species as he birded through the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Joining him as part of the "Off the Rails" birding team was Dick Cannings, BSC's British Columbia Projects Officer and additional local bird experts Chris Charlesworth of Kelowna and Gary Davidson of Nakusp. Kaufman's team was competing against five other teams in the Okanagan Big Day Challenge; their total was good enough for first place. Second place in the Challenge went to four young birders led by Cannings' son Russell - most of whom were alumni of Bird Studies Canada's Young Ornithologists' Workshop.
Thanks to all who supported Kenn's fundraising efforts. By September 2005, well over $12,000 had been raised by Kenn in support of Bird Studies Canada's conservation.
