As the demand for clean energy increases, wind power generating stations are being constructed across Canada. Wind power has been used in many countries in Europe and the United States with a great deal of success. However, concerns have been raised about the possible environmental impact of these turbines on birds, especially after endangered raptors were observed being injured and killed after flying into wind turbines in California. The Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation recently erected eight wind turbines at North Cape, PE.  The Energy Corporation contracted Bird Studies Canada, in this report, to review the effects of wind turbines on birds, with particular reference to the situation at North Cape, to recommend ways of reducing potential impacts of turbines on birds at North Cape, and to recommend a program whereby potential effects of wind turbines on birds can be monitored at North Cape.
