Bird Studies Canada has been running regional programs for many years, beginning with the Ontario Bird Feeder Survey, launched in 1976, which later became the continental Project  FeederWatch program.  Wherever possible, regional projects have a large, and very important, volunteer component.  Current projects in Ontario include the Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring Program and the Nocturnal Owl Survey.  Programs in British Columbia include the British Columbia Coastal Waterbird Survey and the British Columbia Nocturnal Owl Survey.  In the Atlantic Region, the Atlantic Canada Nocturnal Owl Survey begins this year.
