Bird Studies Canada has had a presence in Atlantic Canada for many years through national programs such as Project Feederwatch, the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey, the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network, and more recently through the Important Bird Areas program. In 2000, BSC developed a position for an Atlantic Canada Program Manager in partnership with the Canadian Wildlife Service, and in October 2000 this position was taken on by Becky Whittam. April 2001 marked the launching of the New Brunswick Nocturnal Owl Survey, the first new regional program to be developed in Atlantic Canada.
