Bird Studies Canada has had a presence in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta for many years through national programs such as Project Feederwatch, the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey, the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network, and more recently through the Important Bird Areas program.  In the spring of 2003, BSC launched the Alberta Nocturnal Owl Survey.
